Saturday Morning With Ali

Read time: 2 mins

From a trial sleepover to happily ever after, we got chatting to Ali about her cat Bella and their usual weekend routines.

So tell us about your cat Bella, how did the two of you end up together?

A friend of a friend was looking to rehome her because of his work commitments. She came for a sleepover to see if we got on and stayed 3 nights – mostly holed up behind my computer desk! But when she finally came to live with me a couple of weeks later, being separated from her mum for the first time since she’d been born a year before, she settled in quite quickly!

What a sweetheart! Tell us more about her, is she a specific breed and do you have any cute nicknames for her?

Oh we have a few names, our go to is #prettykitty but we often run with Princess Tinker,  BellaTrix L’estrange, Blackfoot Phillips or Baby Belles. She’s 6 years old and a British Shorthair tabby, although I think she may have a wee bit of Bengal Maine in her! Despite her Dad being a black farm cat, she’s the spitting image of her mum who was a rescue kitten.

Before we get to Saturdays, what do you get up to in the week?

I’m a retired teacher and live in Cumbria enjoying my days with Bella. I love acting and singing as a hobby, that would actually be my dream job if I could go back and do it all again.

So how about Bella, does she live life to any sort of schedule?

Yes! She “needs” breakfast between 6.30am and 7am and dinner as close to 5pm as possible otherwise she sulks with me! When her litter tray needs replenishing she paws at the bag of cat litter. She’s quite particular.

And how do Saturday mornings differ, what’s your usual plan?

We always start with a lie in and a long soak in the bath. If it’s sunny, I have coffee in the garden whilst Bella is having a wander on her harness & lead and chewing the lawn. Definitely no rushing around.

Do you have an anthem to go with your weekends?

Anything by ABBA!

Back to Bella, have you always been a cat person through and through?

Our first cat was 6 months older than me so they’ve kinda been in and out of my world always. Even when I didn’t have one, my brother did, then I got to adopt Elsa when he emigrated to Australia several years ago. And now I’m an all out cat person, complete with a canvas of Bella dressed up like a lady that my niece & her husband gave me for Christmas!

You’re our kind of people. Last thing, does Bella have anything she truly hates with a passion that only cats have?

The rain!
