This Saturday we sat down with Jo and her clan of cats Bindi, Spot and the ever so regal Prince Philip about their weekends in West Wales.
So three cats, some might say a crowd! How did all come to be together?
We adopted both Spot and Prince Philip from kittens so have watched them grow up, but Bindi came to us as a stray that we just couldn’t say no to rescuing, what’s one more? Spot is now 9, Bindi is & and Prince Philip is ironically still just a baby at 18 months – he was named after the Prince as he came to us when Phillip passed away, a fitting tribute. We all live together in Pembrokeshire.
Sounds like a lovely life. Do the cats have any nicknames between them all?
Of course! Spot is Smelly, which doesn’t need much explaining. Bindi we call Spoon Face and the Prince often gets called Billy Willy. Prince Phillip is quite the name in itself though, the vets always get embarrassed to call him in the waiting room!
What do you do for work, and if it’s not already what would be your dream job?
Well I work in hospitality which I enjoy but wouldn’t call it the dream. My ideal job would be a wine taster in a vineyard somewhere sunnier than Wales.
What’s your typical Saturday morning routine?
Working in hospitality usually means working the weekends, so my typical Saturday would be snoozing the alarm as late as I can get away with, a quick coffee and then off to work!
No rest for the wicked! So say you had the weekend off and you were in a treat yourself mood, what would be your go to?
I’d buy a bottle of prosecco, order an Indian takeaway and stay in watching trashy TV. Maybe even treat myself to some new plants for the garden for me and the cats to enjoy.
Back to the cats, have you always known you were a cat person?
Actually, no. It wasn’t until I adopted my first cat 19 years ago that I fully understood them and came to love them. And now obviously I’m a fully fledged cat person with three of them.
As a fully fledged cat person, what’s the coolest cat person thing you have in your house?
We actually have Nepeta growing in the garden, which is catmint – basically a type of catnip!
Do you cats live life to any kind of schedule at all?
Other than a lot of sleeping, no not really! They come and go as they please, but altogether are pretty laid back. They live the slow countryside life and don’t particularly need a schedule.
Between the three of them, are there any sneaky snacks you feed them that you probably shouldn’t?
Weirdly they all love Salt and Vinegar crisps, so they do share a bag from time to time.
Right so love crisps, but anything they hate with a passion?
Spot and Prince Phil are pretty chill but Bindi absolutely hates the dog.
