Saturday Morning Coffee with Jo

Read time: 2 mins

Tell us the story of Flynn, how did you guys meet?

We met Flynn at RSPCA Southall. He was born in the shelter and wasn’t very good at selling himself to prospective new homes… by the time we visited, all his litter had gone and even his mum had been rehomed. He was a bit of a nervous and scratchy guy, but after some love, training and cuddles he’s happy, healthy, and has lived with us for 7 years.

What nicknames do you have for your Flynn?

Flibber, Flib-meister General, Kitten (he’s 5kg!), Witchy Cat, Yellow Eye, Baby (of course).

If you could do anything for work in the world, what would it be and why?

Well, I currently work in dog food development, and I really love working with and around dogs. I’d actually love to do something along the lines of sniffer/ detection dogs because it fascinates me!

Have you always loved cats?

In short, yes. My parents always had them (and weirdly I find myself talking to mine the same way I remember mum talking to the family cats). I can’t imagine life without having them around.

What’s your typical Saturday morning routine?

The day will start with a lie-in (compared to the normal working day), but still up early enough to go to a local parkrun – which are free organised 5K runs every Saturday starting at 9am. I’ll typically try and have a tea in bed before I go, then I’ll grab a strong black coffee from a coffee shop en-route. Then, time to run. After all of that I’ll either go home and have some breakfast, but usually I’ll treat myself and go get some brunch from a local cafe with my husband.

What’s the main thing you look forward to on a Saturday?

I’m all about the food so 100% brunch – I always look forward to it.

If you had £5 to spend on anything over a weekend, what would you buy and why?

Hot Chocolate from Knoops. It’s such a treat and so indulgent. I’ve literally never had anything like it. If I’m counting the calories (and it is Jan after all) I’d get Flynn some Yeeeooww cat nip toys and watch him spend Saturday evening losing his mind over them.

What’s your Saturday anthem?

I love a bit of Annie Lennox – Little Bird. *listen along here*
