It’s that time again, we’re back and we’re talking to Jasmin about her cat Maisie, matcha lattes and more!
Tell us the story of Maisie, how did you both meet?
I moved to England when I was 20 and I always knew I wanted to get a cat. When I looked after my friend’s cats when she went away for a week, I finally convinced my partner at the time that we could get a cat too. We found Maisie on Gumtree. I originally wanted to get one of her siblings from the litter, but when we saw them in real life we ended up picking her as she was the cutest and most quiet one. As soon as we brought her home, she was not shy at all and was running around everywhere! She’s seven now and lives with me in Brighton, we call her Lazy Maisie.
Being Lazy Maisie, does she stick to any sort of schedule between naps?
She will always come to bed with us in the evening for some snuggles and then she will settle at our feet. When she sees we’ve woken up in the morning, she runs straight into the kitchen immediately in the hope that she can get breakfast. And then the rest of the day she mostly spends sleeping until about 2 hours before the cat feeder goes off and she will just sit there and stare for 2 whole hours. Her routine is very sleep/food orientated.
Tell us more about the feeder! And any other cool cat person stuff you have at home?
She loves the automatic feeder. She’ll longingly stare at it all day long whilst perching on the sofa arm. It lets you record a little voice message which plays before it gives out the food, so it’s still me calling her for dinner if I’m not home. It confuses the hell out of people that come over for the first time. We also have a window hammock for Maisie so she can look out the window all day long. Also she’s got a humongous cat tree. She’s definitely spoiled.
Is there anything Maisie hates with a passion?
New people, noisy things and anyone that touches her without permission.
So more about you, what’s your typical Saturday morning routine?
Sleeping in a little bit and cuddling with Maisie is first, followed by reading in bed with a tea or coffee and then I usually go out later to meet a friend and treat myself to a matcha latte and a croissant to walk along Brighton beach. I always like putting in some effort to put together a nice outfit as I usually work from home in my PJs 3 days a week, charity shop hunting is another weekend favourite activity.
Do you have a go to anthem that’s usually your Saturday morning soundtrack?
Did you always know you were a cat person?
I’ve always been a cat lover. I grew up with our family’s cat Minka and she was a big emotional support for me growing up. Unfortunately she passed away when I was 15 and my parents decided not to get another cat after her. I ended up always volunteering to look after other people’s cats when they went away but knew that I wanted my own one day. If I enter a room and there’s a cat there, it’s instantly the centre of my attention and I absolutely have to go and pet it immediately!
Last question, What’s a sneaky snack you probably shouldn’t feed your cat but you secretly do?
Whatever cooked meat or cheese we have in the fridge. If I’m being really honest, sometimes I sit on the floor with her and we share it straight out of the packaging.
