We shared a coffee with Alison, a dancer and fitness instructor who lives with her crazy cat Monkey in London.
First of all, a dancer and a fitness instructor?! Were these your dream jobs, or is there something else you’d love to do?
Dancing and working in the fitness industry has always been a big goal of mine and I love them both. But if I could do anything I’d be in films, anywhere sunny. An action star. It’s going to happen so watch this space.
Big things are coming, that’s so exciting. Tell us about your cat Monkey, how did you guys meet between all that dancing?
A lady that lived nearby me had a cat at her farm that had kittens. I went over ‘just to look’ and Monkey was the biggest, strongest wild tabby boy – well half tabby, half siamese. It was love at first sight. He was so tiny but clearly the leader of the group. I’ve had him for almost 8 years now and he is definitely the king of the house!
He sounds like great fun, have you got any nicknames for him?
Oh, he has many – Monks, Main man Monks, Uptown Monk. He’s actually called Monkey because he’s so mischievous.
And you guys live together in London, right?
We do, along with Monkey’s canine sister Heidi. He’s a very streetwise cat. The smartest cat I’ve ever met. We are a little outside of London now so have a huge garden and you can see him in all the neighbours’ gardens, on top of their sheds with the other cats that live around here, just chillin.
So Saturday morning, talk us through your usual routine.
Saturday morning is a team workout in our house. Me and my husband start the day with a deserved lie-in, then a loud RnB playlist for our workout, followed by a homemade breakfast. We love walking the dog and getting a coffee. The cat and dog are best friends so they snuggle when we get back. It’s actually unreal.
Love an RnB playlist, do you have a particular go-to anthem for the weekend?
Beyoncé – CUFF IT will never get old for me.
And if you’re in a ‘treat yourself’ mood over the weekend, what would you do?
That would have to be a liquid lunch with friends.
