Cat friendly Christmas decor tips

When it gets to the time of year for the Christmas decorations to go up, cat owners have to be pretty tactical. The cats come alive at Christmas. Twinkly lights, trees to climb and tinsel to destroy. There are so many sparkly distractions, and not all of them are the safest for our festive kittens. Here are our top cat-friendly Christmas décor tips, to keep your home full of cat proof Christmas joy.

Cat Tunnel Tree

One of our favourite new trends this year is the cat tunnel tree skirt. Maybe not the most typically festive thing you’ve ever seen, but ultimately using a cat tunnel as your tree skirt provides the ultimate distraction from the actual tree itself. Plus, it keeps your cat safely entertained over the holiday season.

Cat Garland

We spied this beautiful cat Christmas garland and couldn’t say no. Paper decorations ultimately are the safest for our feline friends, Call us old fashioned, but paper garlands provide pretty festive decoration, without causing any danger to your cat if they do get their paws on them, unlike tinsel or ribbon! We still recommend hanging them high though, never underestimate those furry Christmas fiends.

Fairy lights

Now it wouldn’t be Christmas without some twinkling fairy lights, however cats and electricals don’t mix well. We’re not saying no, but it’s important to plan where to put your plug ins to be as safe as possible. Hanging them high up is an option, and making sure any cables and plugs are out of reach from prying paws.

Candles

Same goes for candles and fires! ‘Tis the season’ to light festive spice candle and curl up by the fire, however singed whiskers won’t be on your Christmas list. The flickering flames can really draw the attention on our inquisitive cats, so again make sure any candles are safely out of reach and any fires are always under constant observation. LED candles can be just as pretty, but certainly a lot safer for your cat.

Cat proof baubles

We might sound a little scroogey with all the safety tips, but of course we can still decorate and enjoy christmas with our furry grinches! Hunting down cat proof decorations is key, and we love these anti smash baubles from habitat. Avoid glass at all costs, and opt for more fabric decorations to adorn your tree this Christmas.

These are just a few of our tips to a cat friendly Christmas at home. Our favourite felines seem to enjoy the festive season almost as much as we do, following this guide will keep them safe whilst still spreading Christmas joy!
