Black cat traits

Black cat or golden retriever? This is a trending question based on personality type. But do black cats really have specific personality traits? Let’s find out.

Historically, black cats have been a subject of folklore, often associated with witches and superstition, are they bad or good luck? Fascinating, mystical creatures, can it really come down to fur colour that determines certain personalities in cats? Whilst many believe certain coat colours can determine temperaments, there isn’t much science to back this up. Cat’s personalities are much more likely determined by their upbringing and environment, rather than their fur colour.

Despite this, many owners of black cats will suggest their favourite felines are super intelligent, playful and very affectionate. Interestingly though, black is a genetically dominant colour in cats, there are a lot of them around! As well as this, black cats are evolutionary. Researchers found that cats with black coats have become more resistant to certain diseases, and their black coats have also helped them evade predators and hide more easily over time.

Historically, black cats were worshipped by Egyptians and regarded as royalty.

Maybe all this praise has helped develop their affectionate, intelligent personalities – they’ve got us right where they want us!

Despite their charm, black cats are statistically less likely to be adopted. They’re proven to be wonderful pets, each with their own individual personalities. Coats really are just a colour, so if you’re considering adopting a cat – think about giving a black cat a home, we’re sure you’ll reap the purry rewards.
