For many cat owners, feeding their cats is simple. You choose one food they like, serve it up and you’re good to go. The cats are happy. However, it has been found that feeding your cats a mixed diet (a mix of wet and dry food) is best for them. Yes, it may require a little more effort at meal times, but if it’s for the benefit of your best pal, we say it’s definitely worth it. Let’s find out why mixed feeding is best for cats.
Some cats may take a little convincing if they have their preferences. But mixing it up with both dry and wet food will give your furball some variety of texture. They’ll get all the tasty flavours they love from their wet food, as well as a boost of hydration. Adding dry food on top is a great way to bust any lingering plaque on their teeth whilst giving them a good cronch. Dry food is also more energy-rich in calories than wet. A complete cat food diet that also cleans their teeth, perfect!
A lot of cat creatures do prefer those little kibbles to wet food, despite their obligate carnivorous nature. But a dry food-only diet can have its drawbacks. Namely a lack of hydration. Dry food, though tasty as it may be, isn’t able to provide our cats with the daily water intake they require. Which is why mixed feeding is great. Tossing in some of those meaty wet food recipes alongside kibble is a sure-fire way to resolve any hydration concerns. Water is key to a healthy lifestyle, for both humans and cats alike. Making sure they get their moisture boost from the wet stuff will put your mind at ease and keep them in peak condition.
Top tip – although wet food is super hydrating, always make sure fresh water is available for your feline. Preferably straight from a running tap!
Mixed feeding means your cat can reap the benefits of both dry and wet, and give them variety which will hopefully avoid fussiness. You can’t blame them for getting bored of eating the same old texture and flavour day in day out. Mix it up and watch them thrive!
