The wonderful world of whiskers. We’ll never bore of the adorable antenna that adorn our little cat’s faces. But are all cat whiskers the same? And exactly how many does a cat have?
Cats’ whiskers are a science in themselves and are strategically placed above their eyes, on their chin, on their front legs, and by their ears and upper lip. Breed to breed, the exact pattern and location can differ. But as far as numbers go, usually, most cats will have 12 whiskers laid out in rows of 3 on each cheek, totalling 24 whiskers per cat. Some cats may have more, but will almost always have an even number of them. That’s a whole load of whiskers doing some serious work to keep your cat safe and balanced on their adventures. If you count your cat’s whiskers and notice an odd number, don’t fret! Often cats will shed a whisker here and here, but this is totally normal and they will eventually grow back. Magic!
