Saturday Morning Coffee with Amy

Read time: 3 mins

Share a coffee with us, Amy and her crew of two Maggie (12) and Marv (6). We loved our chat about flowers, sharing toast and everything we needed to know about her two cherubs.

Two cats, Maggie and Marv. Tell us about how you all ended up together as a family?

I met Maggie when I met my husband – he’s had her since she was a kitten, but I’ve had the pleasure of now knowing her for 8 years! She’s a black British Shorthair, my first ever cat and I love her to death. Marv is a rescue cat whom I found in a shelter when I was living in California. He’s a grey and white Tabby. It’s too long to explain but he is my soulmate. He’s the sweetest cross-eyed boy you’ll ever meet.

Do you have any nicknames for either of them?

I call Maggie “Babalohj”, I don’t know why and I don’t think it means anything! And Marv I generally call him Marvy, Poopy-Shoes, Poopy bum… lots of poo nicknames, again for no real reason.

Have you always loved cats? Did you always know you were a cat person?

No actually! I didn’t not like them, but I always had dogs growing up and didn’t spend much time around cats until I met Maggie. I instantly fell in love with her and became a cat (and still a dog) person. Best of both worlds.

Do the cats live life to any kind of schedule?

Absolutely not, we’ve always been free and easy. They are indoor cats and have their own room (because we also have a puppy who we’re currently training to be calmer with them) but they very much do what they want, when they want. Typical cats.

And what about you, do you have any sort of routine for your usual Saturday morning?

I usually have 2 instant coffees in the morning (I’m not a posh coffee person), I’ll have some toast and jump in the shower, hang out with the cats for a while and then take my dog, Ham, for a walk in the park! For the rest of the day I love to either sit on my sofa watching TV and crocheting, or go to the pub.

Ham is an incredible name. What about the rest of the week, what do you do for work?

I work as a florist now in London, and previously worked in design studios/offices as a studio manager. I’m very lucky that I get to do a job that I adore every day working with flowers.

If you had £5 to spend on anything over a weekend, what would you buy and why?

I think I’d probably choose to spend it on food for someone who needs it, rather than on myself.

That’s super kind! And speaking of food, what’s a sneaky snack you probably shouldn’t feed your cats but you secretly do?

Marv absolutely loves toast (just one of the reasons he truly is my soulmate) and he’ll sit in front of me on the table when I’m eating it, so I sneak him a few little crumbs.

Amazing. Final question, is there anything your cats truly hate?

Oh absolutely, the dog.
