Catnip tea recipe for your cat

Read time: 1.5 mins

If you’re a cat parent, you have most likely introduced your fuzzy one to catnip at some point in their life. The mysterious herb that drives the cats wild, catnip can be a great way to relax your cat or get them up off the sofa for some playtime if they’re a little on the lazy side.

We thought we’d share a recipe to make catnip tea so you and your cat can enjoy a mood-boosting brew together, rather than having to clean up herby sprinkles from the rug every time there’s a catnip session.

Catnip tea recipe

  1. Bring 500ml water to the boil in a pan on the hob.
  2. Once boiled, remove from the heat and add in 2-3 teaspoons of 100% pure and organic catnip and leave to brew for around 5 minutes.
  3. Next strain the tea through a sieve over ice. It sounds extra, but the tea needs to be cool enough for your cat to enjoy, too hot and it could burn their sensitive tongue.
  4. Serve up the tea in their favourite bowl or teacup for added cuteness and wait.
  5. Enjoy observing the results! Your cat ven if your cat doesn’t fully brave the bowl, just the catnip aromas will be enough to boost the mood and they’ll endure basking in the bliss.

We don’t recommend doing this on the daily. Too much catnip can cause stomach upsets so keep the tea as a treat and only serve up on special occasions. Catnip is a great tool to reduce anxiety in your cat and is even believed to ward off mosquitos. There really are several benefits from the herb other than just the happy high your cat will enjoy, so drink up kitties. Chin chin! *sips tea*
