Saturday Morning Coffee with Wieke

Read time: 2 mins

Wieke, a Customer Experience Specialist for the Netherlands, spoke to us about her love affair with cats, and how cheese on crackers really is the ultimate treat *chefs kiss*.

Tell us the story of your cats, how did you guys meet?

I’ve got two cats, Ping and Bumi – I’d always only ever had fish and hamsters and thought it was time to find a buddy. To be honest, it was a bit of a toss up between getting a cat or a dog, but I visited a litter and fell in love with this little ball of black fluff with a pink collar – soon known to be Ping. After a few months of Ping settling in he seemed a bit lonely, so I got Bumi for us both and the rest is history. They get on so well, and are very harmonious in their big/little brother relationship.

Do you have any nicknames for them?

I feel like I come up with a new name for them weekly. Ping goes by Pingu, Pingeisha and Pingeling and Bumi goes by Chonkster, Bumisha and Bumelino.

If you could do anything for work in the world, what would it be and why?

I’d love to start my own business where I can help people by offering unique disability aid accessories – all the ones out there at the moment are so grey and boring, I’d really love to make some amazing bright ones. To help people live their day to day life with ease is the dream.

What’s your typical Saturday morning routine?

Bumi always wakes me up at 7:45 on the dot, meowing in my ear demanding breakfast – so it’s downstairs to give Bumi his breakfast and medication (he needs a daily puff on his inhaler) and then I’ll give Ping his breakfast too (who will wait patiently by the door whilst the Bumi chaos is happening). Then it’s back to bed for all of us for some cuddles.

If you had £5 to spend on anything over a weekend, what would you buy and why?

It would have to be some cheese for a makeshift charcuterie board. Some brie on crackers will never ever bore me.

Have you always loved cats? Did you always know you were a cat person?

I actually never liked cats. When I was younger I got scratched a lot by one, and it really put me off them;  but having dogs was never an option for my parents or even after I moved out and got a full time job. So, I got a cat and…  well… 3 years and 2 cats later, it’s safe to say I’m an absolute cat lady.

What’s your Saturday anthem?
